Festo's Story...

This is the story of Festo, a 10-year old boy from Mbarara District. Festo lived alone with his mother – his father and two brothers had already died from malaria. Holy Innocents Wins Early Accreditation

In December we learned that Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital Uganda had received accreditation from the Uganda Ministry of Health.  This outstanding accomplishment was achieved in record time due to the experience and leadership of Patricia O’Callaghan, who served as Interim Hospital Administrator from July through December.  Hospitals in Uganda typically earn accreditation in 12 to 24 months.  Patricia and her team achieved it in less than six months.

Accreditation means that certain drugs will be provided for free, including all immunization drugs.  HI is now authorized to register with the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau and receive discounts on other medicines.  Accreditation also allows an immunization center to be established at Holy Innocents.

Equipment & Supplies Need Skyrockets

The number of patients at Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital quadrupled from Q3 to Q4 2009.  This puts significant demands on hospital staff and has caused a dramatic increase in the need for additional medicine, supplies and equipment.

We have received funding for X-Ray equipment from Rotary Fallbrook and a container of supplies from Sabin Children’s Foundation.  Rotary has approved a new grant for a blood bank refrigerator, and Sabin is preparing a new container shipment, but we still have significant shortages.

Your support at this time is critical so we can continue to provide appropriate care for children who are in need.  Click here to help!
